Care Instructions:
To ensure your hat maintains a polished appearance, regular maintenance is required.
It is recommended to brush your hat gently and often with a soft-bristle brush to remove dust/dirt and maintain the nap (surface fibers). Be sure to brush in the direction of the fibers and not against to avoid pushing the dirt deeper into the fibers. Brush in circular motion to gently lift the nap and maintain the suede's natural luster.
Store your hat in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight, ideally in a hat box, to avoid dust/dirt, damage to the fibers such as color fading, and unwanted creases.
(optional) For protection, it is recommended to spray your hat frequently with a synthetic-friendly, suede/nubuck protector to repel rain and prevent unwanted stains or water damage. Follow instructions on the spray can for proper application.
Cleaning:
In the instance your hat is stained, it is important to identify the type of stain as to not accidentally damage your hat. Always use a clean cloth when caring for a hat.
Start by removing any loose dust/dirt with a soft bristle brush or vacuum.
For light surface stains, scuffs/marks, gently brush the affected area with a suede eraser as it is the most gentle and effective way to remove dirt/stains while preserving the hat fibers.
If you do not have a suede eraser, it is recommended that you spot clean only.
Mix a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar. Lightly dampen a clean cloth in the solution and begin gently dabbing the affected area. Once cleaned go back over the areas one final time using a new clean cloth, dampened by just water, and gently blot the area to remove any solution residue.
For tough/stubborn stains, dampen a light-colored cloth with cold water and gently blot the affected area. If the stain persists, mix a small amount of mild soap and water, dip the cloth in the mixture and continue gently blotting until clean. To remove excess soap, dampen a new cloth with just water and blot the area until residue is removed.
When working with liquid/water mixed solutions, blot the newly cleaned damp areas with a clean dry cloth to remove excess moisture. Always allow your hat to naturally dry air in a room temperature area away from direct sunlight and open heat sources.
Once completely dry gently re-brush with a soft-bristle brush to redistribute the fibers.
For grease/oil stains, sprinkle a small amount of cornstarch or talcum powder over the affected area. Let it sit overnight to absorb, then vacuum or gently brush off with a soft-bristle brush. Once removed, re-brush the hat to redistribute the fibers.
*Please note it is highly recommended to use care specific suede tools when available as it is the safest way to maintain the materials’ integrity.
What to Avoid:
Never machine wash or dry your hat as this will destroy the shape/structure and may cause irreversible damage.
Avoid drying with a hairdryer or placing near heaters, this can cause the material to warp/shrink and is a potential fire hazard.
Do not use harsh cleaners such as bleach, ammonia, or cleaners with strong alcohol-bases as these can cause irreversible damage to your hat.
